Volunteer Opportunities

Damascus Fiber Arts School is run entirely by volunteers. DFAS depends on volunteers for the administration as well as the day-to-day operations. Our passionate volunteer base is essential to achieving the school’s mission. Please consider helping in this team effort.  Click here to jump to volunteer opportunities that are currently available.

We have volunteer opportunities for all skills and interests, from Monitors to curating our gallery wall.

A Message from the board President Kiki Dembrow:

“We know how important our school is to all of us. Please consider becoming a monitor!

We’re sure you’ve noticed that it’s not that difficult or time consuming and it is much appreciated. Join our amazing group of volunteer monitors. If opening and closing the building and writing receipts is not your thing, consider helping to write blog posts or curate our Galleria wall. Take a look at our Call for Volunteers below. It would be great to have volunteers interested in these opportunities. There are many ways to contributes and help our school. Just ask what you can do!”

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at damascusfiberartsschoolinfo@gmail.com or talk to a Roving Instructor or Board Member at the school.

Raised Hands

Looking for DFAS REPORTERS!

Love to write? With our new website we can now post blogs, but we need material. The board would like to start with “reporters,” people to write something as simple as a short description of an event at school, such as our recent fiber event or when someone finishes a tapestry or wins an award. There are, of course, a lot of possibilities with a blog and the board is interested in hearing your ideas. This can easily be a shared responsibility. Contact Kiki Dembrow at kiki.dembrow@damascusfiberartsshool.org.

Announcement Boards

Would you like to help to maintain one or both of the activity boards in the school’s east room for a term? Our goal is to have these boards catch your attention, be relevant, current, and full of useful information. There is one board for projects and one for upcoming activities, notices, items for sale, etc. Want to volunteer but don’t have any ideas on what to put on the boards? Enlist a buddy to help. Contact Margaret Jeppesen at margaret.jeppesen@damascusfiberartsschool.org.

Volunteers to Demonstrate at Fiber and Art Events

Many of our new people first meet us at events like Oregon Flock and Fiber or the Gathering of the Guilds.  Each individual event where we participate as demonstrators needs a Coordinator and Volunteers. We have sign up templates, sheets for the tables, a banner, publicity, displays and more already.  Choose your event and let’s make it happen. Contact Terry Olson at damascusfiberartsschoolinfo@gmail.com.

Suggestions include:

Gathering of the Guilds, April 28-30, Convention Center Portland

Black Sheep Gathering, June 23-25, Albany Fairgrounds

Art in the Pearl, Sept 2-4, Pearl District, NW Portland

Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival, Oct 14-15, Albany Fairgrounds

Your ideas are welcome.

Galleria Wall Curator

When we see the Galleria Wall, we are inspired to weave, amazed at the work we see, and happy we had the opportunity to participate. Each term needs a new show on the Wall. This Volunteer Curator would be responsible for one term. The volunteer would need a small team to come up with a theme, to solicit tapestries, to arrange for wall labels, and to install the artwork. Some volunteers have experience and can be asked to help the Term Gallery Curator. This is a great way to be inclusive and get newer weavers and more experienced weavers together! Contact Terry Olson at damascusfiberartsschoolinfor@gmail.com.

Kitchen Oversight

This could be the perfect volunteer opportunity for someone. We need someone to keep track of kitchen supplies, keep an eye on the refrigerator and oversee cleanup after potluck.  Contact Margaret Jeppesen at margaret.jeppesen@damascusfiberartsschool.org.
